Beer Review: Tallgrass 8-BIT Pale Ale

by Leave a Comment

If you’re a beer nerd and a gamer, Tallgrass 8-BIT Pale Ale practically screams your name. From its retro video game inspired can design to its juicy, hop-forward character, this brew is a fun ride that’s hard to resist. Let’s crack it open and see what’s inside.

Tasting Notes

Appearance: The pour is a gorgeous golden amber, slightly hazy, with a frothy off-white head that sticks around like it’s got nowhere else to be. It leaves a nice lacing on the glass, which is always a good sign.
Aroma: Right off the bat, you get a burst of tropical and citrusy hops. Think pineapple, grapefruit, and a little bit of mango. There’s also a light malty sweetness in the background, giving it some balance.
Flavor: The first sip hits with a wave of juicy citrus and a slight piney bitterness, followed by a biscuity malt backbone that rounds things out. It’s not overly bitter, which makes it super approachable, even for those who might shy away from hop bombs. However, the hop flavors could linger a little longer; they fade a bit quicker than expected.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a crisp, slightly dry finish. It’s smooth, refreshing, and perfect for a chill session with friends. The carbonation is spot-on…not too fizzy, not too flat.

The Positives

Tallgrass 8-BIT Pale Ale nails the balance between being flavorful and easy-drinking. The tropical fruitiness and restrained bitterness make it a great gateway for those just dipping their toes into craft beer. Plus, the can design is an absolute winner! It’s a conversation starter, for sure.

The Downsides

If you’re a hardcore hop head, you might find the hop profile a bit tame or wish it had a longer finish. Additionally, while the malty backbone is nice, it occasionally leans toward over shadowing the hops, which might not be everyone’s vibe.

Final Thoughts

Overall, Tallgrass 8-BIT Pale Ale is a fun, well crafted pale ale that doesn’t take itself too seriously. It’s approachable, flavorful, and has a nostalgic vibe that’s hard not to love. While it might not blow your socks off if you’re chasing the next big, hazy IPA, it’s a solid choice for any occasion. Pop open a can, grab a controller, and let the good times roll!
