Boulevard Strawberry Wheat: A Flavorful Dive into Summer

by

Boulevard Brewing’s Strawberry Wheat is like the beer equivalent of a summer day…mostly sunny, with a few passing clouds. It’s a fruit-forward American wheat beer that delivers on its promise of fresh strawberry vibes, though it’s not without its quirks.

Appearance

Pouring a hazy golden-orange, the beer looks inviting, capped with a fluffy white head that dissipates a bit too quickly for my liking. The cloudiness gives it a rustic, unfiltered charm, which suits the style well.

Aroma

From the first sniff, you’re greeted with sweet strawberry and light wheat malt aromas. There’s a playful balance here…ripe fruit mingles with a subtle grassy earthiness. A faint citrusy zing in the background adds complexity. It’s a lovely, summery aroma, though some might find the strawberry a tad artificial upon closer inspection.

Taste

The flavor is where this brew shines. Juicy, vibrant strawberry is front and center, with the wheat backbone providing a soft, bready canvas. It’s like biting into a ripe strawberry while enjoying a slice of fresh bread. The sweetness is present but not overwhelming, balanced by a slight tartness that keeps the beer from veering into dessert territory.

However, the beer’s mid-palate feels slightly thin, and the finish is a touch abrupt. While the strawberry flavor is delightful, it doesn’t linger long enough to fully satisfy. A bit more body might elevate the experience.

Mouthfeel

Light and crisp, with moderate carbonation, this beer goes down easy. It’s refreshing and clean, making it a great choice for warm weather. That said, the mouthfeel borders on watery, which might leave some drinkers wishing for a bit more heft.

Pairing

Boulevard Strawberry Wheat pairs perfectly with summer salads, grilled chicken, or even a light cheesecake. Its fruity profile complements fresh, bright flavors, making it an excellent companion for outdoor meals.

Overall Thoughts

Boulevard Strawberry Wheat is a fun, approachable beer that’s hard not to like. It’s ideal for casual drinking, especially at a picnic or barbecue. While it may not be the most complex or robust wheat beer out there, it nails the refreshing, fruity vibes it’s aiming for.

Appearance: 7/10
Aroma: 8/10
Taste: 8/10
Mouthfeel: 6.5/10
Overall: 7.5/10

If you’re a fan of fruit-forward beers or looking for a crowd pleasing option for summer gatherings, this one’s worth a try. Just don’t expect it to blow your socks off. It’s more of a flip flops and shorts kind of brew.
