Great Divide Titan IPA Review

by Leave a Comment

If you’re a fan of West Coast-style IPAs, then Great Divide Titan IPA should definitely be on your radar. This beer comes from the heart of Denver, Colorado, and it certainly brings that bold, no-nonsense approach to craft beer that Great Divide is known for.

First Impressions:
Right from the pour, the Titan IPA greets you with a beautiful, clear amber hue and a frothy white head that sticks around just long enough to let you know it means business. The aromas are a hop lover’s dream—pine, citrus, and a bit of floral sweetness that instantly makes your mouth water.

Taste & Tasting Notes:
The first sip? It hits you with a wave of grapefruit bitterness that’s both refreshing and bracing. That bitterness is balanced by a malt backbone that has a subtle sweetness, keeping things from tipping too far into the bitter zone. There’s a solid mix of pine resin, citrus zest, and a little hint of caramel from the malt, which rounds things out nicely.

As you get deeper into the glass, you’ll notice the earthy pine flavors come to the forefront, which is where this IPA really shines. It’s aggressive, but not overpowering, offering a nice blend of bitterness and complexity. The hop profile (thanks to those lovely Centennial and Cascade hops) is bright and forward, perfect for hop-heads who like a good punch of flavor. However, if you’re someone who prefers a softer, juicier IPA, this might lean a bit too bitter for your taste.

Mouthfeel & Finish:
The carbonation is spot-on: light, crisp, and refreshing. The Titan IPA has a medium body that gives it some heft without feeling too heavy, so it’s easy to go back for another sip. The finish is dry, with lingering hop bitterness that leaves you wanting more, but it’s also not shy about letting you know you’re drinking a West Coast IPA.

Negatives:
If I had to knock it for anything, it would be that it’s not the most balanced IPA out there. The malt is there, but the hops really dominate the show. While I love a good hop-forward beer, the bitterness could be a bit much for those who aren’t as into that piney, resin-heavy experience. Also, if you’re into the trendier hazy IPAs, you might find Titan a little too traditional in its approach.

Overall Rating:

  • Appearance: 8/10
  • Aroma: 9/10
  • Flavor: 8.5/10
  • Mouthfeel: 8/10
  • Drinkability: 7.5/10

Final Thoughts:
Great Divide Titan IPA is a classic, no-frills IPA that hits all the right notes for anyone who enjoys a more bitter, hop-forward beer. It’s got that signature West Coast punch of pine and citrus, with just enough malt sweetness to keep it in check. It might be a little intense for more casual drinkers, but for seasoned IPA lovers, it’s a solid choice. Just be ready for that hop bite—it’s called Titan for a reason!
