Odell Brewing (Fort Collins, Colorado) has been a stalwart of the craft beer industry since 1989. They’ve consistently produced great beer over the years, and their Wire Walker Double IPA is no exception. This beer is a bold, hop-forward beer that showcases Odell’s expertise in balancing intensity with drinkability.

Tasting Notes

Pouring a hazy golden-orange with a frothy white head, Wire Walker immediately entices with its vibrant appearance. The aroma is a burst of tropical fruit, such as ripe mango, pineapple, and a hint of citrus zest. It’s complemented by a subtle piney resin and a touch of bready malt sweetness. On the palate, the beer delivers a juicy, fruit-forward profile with flavors of apricot, tangerine, and a touch of peach. The hop bitterness is assertive but not overwhelming, providing a crisp, clean finish. At 8% ABV, the alcohol is masked, making this dangerously smooth for a Double IPA. The mouthfeel is medium-bodied with moderate carbonation, striking a nice balance between creamy and refreshing.

What Stands Out

One of the most interesting aspects of Wire Walker is its hop blend. Odell uses a combination of Mosaic, Citra, and Simcoe hops, which are known for their tropical and citrusy characteristics. This trio creates a harmonious flavor profile that’s both complex and approachable.

Wire Walker is recommended for fans of hoppy beers who want something with depth but not chaos. Pair it with spicy foods or enjoy it on its own during a sunny afternoon. It’s versatile enough to shine in either setting.
