Ozark Beer Company Cream Stout Review

by Leave a Comment

Ozark Beer Company, nestled in the heart of the Ozark Mountains in Rogers, Arkansas, has built a reputation for crafting approachable yet flavorful beers that pay homage to traditional styles while incorporating a touch of regional charm. Their Cream Stout is no exception, offering a comforting and well-executed take on the classic stout style. While it may not reinvent the wheel, it delivers a satisfying experience that’s worth exploring.

Appearance – 4.5/5

The beer pours an inky, deep brown, almost black, with a thick, tan head that lingers, leaving behind nice lacing as it slowly recedes. It has a visually inviting presence that hints at its creamy texture.

Aroma – 4.25/5

The nose is filled with notes of roasted malt, cocoa powder, and a subtle coffee essence. There’s a light sweetness, reminiscent of caramel and vanilla, that rounds out the aroma, making it both inviting and well layered.

Taste – 4.5/5

The first sip delivers exactly what the aroma promises…deep roasted malt flavors with a chocolatey backbone. The lactose addition provides a gentle sweetness, softening the roasted bitterness. Hints of espresso, caramel, and a slight nuttiness add depth without overwhelming the palate. The sweetness is well balanced, keeping it from becoming cloying while still enhancing its cream stout character.

Mouthfeel – 4.75/5

True to its name, the Cream Stout has an incredibly smooth, velvety mouthfeel. The medium body and low to moderate carbonation create a silky drinking experience. It’s full bodied without being heavy, and has an ABV of 5.3%, making it an excellent sessionable stout.

Overall – 4.5/5

Ozark Beer Company’s Cream Stout is a fantastic example of how a milk stout should be done…creamy, roasty, and balanced. It delivers complexity without being too bold, making it accessible to both stout lovers and those new to the style. While it might not be the most adventurous stout out there, its execution is solid. Whether you’re looking for a cozy winter sipper or a smooth, dark beer for any time of year, this one is worth seeking out.

Final Rating: 4.5/5
