Public House Brewing Company, based in Rolla, Missouri, has developed a solid reputation for crafting well balanced, approachable beers. It delivers a smooth, roasty experience with enough depth to keep things interesting while remaining highly drinkable.

Public House Brewing Company Dry Stout

Appearance – 4.5/5

Revelation pours an inky black with a deep mahogany hue when held up to the light. The beer is topped with a creamy, tan head that lingers, leaving behind attractive lacing as it slowly recedes. The carbonation appears just right for the style, offering a visually inviting pour reminiscent of classic dry stouts.

Aroma – 4/5

The nose presents a mix of roasted malt, dark chocolate, and subtle coffee notes. There’s a touch of charred toast and an earthy, almost nutty undertone. While the aroma is pleasant, it’s not as intense or complex as some stouts in the category. Still, the balance between the roastiness and mild sweetness is well executed.

Taste – 4.2/5

On the first sip, you’re met with a bold roasted malt backbone that brings forth flavors of dark cocoa, espresso, and a touch of caramel sweetness. The mid-palate carries some mild nuttiness and hints of dark fruit, though they remain subtle. The finish is dry and slightly bitter, with a lingering roasted character that doesn’t overstay its welcome. The balance of flavors makes it a highly sessionable stout, even at a slightly higher ABV than typical Irish dry stouts.

Mouthfeel – 4/5

The mouthfeel is smooth and medium bodied, with a slight creaminess that enhances drinkability. The carbonation is moderate, keeping the beer from feeling too heavy while still allowing the flavors to coat the palate. Compared to classic nitro stouts, this one has a bit more texture, which works well with its roasty profile.

Uniqueness & Drinkability – 4.3/5

While Revelation doesn’t break any new ground in the stout category, it does an excellent job of staying true to style while offering a slightly fuller body and richer roast character than some of its counterparts. It’s a well-crafted beer that could easily be enjoyed year-round, especially for those who appreciate the robust yet smooth nature of a dry stout.

Final Verdict

Public House Brewing’s Revelation Dry Stout is an impressive take on the traditional dry stout, offering a satisfying mix of roastiness, subtle sweetness, and a crisp finish. It’s a beer that stout lovers will appreciate for its well balanced execution, and newcomers to the style will find it approachable yet flavorful. While it doesn’t reinvent the wheel, it proves that classic styles, when done right, can be just as enjoyable as the latest trend-driven brews.

Would I recommend it? Absolutely…especially if you enjoy a Guinness but want something with a bit more depth and craft character.
