Review of Brewery Emperial, Kansas City, MO

by Leave a Comment

If you’re hunting for a laid back yet sophisticated spot to grab a beer in Kansas City, Missouri, Brewery Emperial is a must visit. Nestled in the East Crossroads Arts District, this brewery blends a welcoming neighborhood vibe with a polished aesthetic that sets it apart.

The Beers

Brewery Emperial Marzen Oktoberfest

Let’s start with the star of the show, the beer. Brewery Emperial takes pride in crafting balanced, approachable brews that cater to a wide range of palates. Their rotating selection usually features a mix of classics and creative offerings. On a recent visit, I savored a crisp Kölsch that was perfect for sipping on their patio and a beautifully malty Vienna lager that hit all the right notes. For hop heads, they often have an IPA or pale ale that doesn’t overwhelm but still delivers those citrusy and piney flavors we love.

One of their strengths is consistency. While some breweries go overboard with experimental brews, Brewery Emperial keeps things dialed in, offering beers that are flavorful without being over the top. That said, if you’re looking for wild, boundary-pushing concoctions, you might not find them here, but their dedication to quality is undeniable.

The Atmosphere

The ambiance is where this brewery really shines. Brewery Emperial boasts a spacious outdoor patio that feels like a backyard oasis, complete with picnic tables, twinkling string lights, and lush greenery. Inside, the vibe is cozy yet modern, with an open layout that gives you a peek at the brewing equipment.

It’s a great spot for catching up with friends, enjoying a date night, or even flying solo. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, the laid back energy makes you feel right at home. Plus, it’s dog-friendly, so you’ll often find a few furry friends lounging on the patio.

The Food

Brewery Emperial also gets points for its food menu. They’ve mastered the art of pairing hearty, flavorful bites with their beer. The wood fired dishes are especially popular, from their juicy burgers to their crispy flatbreads. While the menu isn’t huge, the quality more than makes up for it.

Location and Accessibility

Being in the Crossroads at 19th and Oak, it’s super convenient for a night out or a pit stop on a brewery crawl. Parking can be a bit tricky during peak hours, but it’s manageable with nearby street parking or ride share options. The urban setting adds to its charm, with murals and art galleries just a short walk away.

Prices

For the quality you’re getting, the prices are pretty fair. Pints generally hover around $6-$8, which is standard for KC area breweries. The food, while not cheap, feels worth it given the care and craftsmanship. It’s not the most budget friendly spot in town, but it’s definitely not overpriced for what you’re getting.

The Verdict

Brewery Emperial is a gem in Kansas City’s thriving craft beer scene. While it might not have the flashiest or most experimental lineup, it’s a place that consistently delivers excellent beer, tasty food, and a top-notch atmosphere. If you’re someone who appreciates balance, quality, and a bit of charm, this spot should definitely be on your radar. Just make sure to grab a seat on the patio when the weather’s nice. You won’t regret it!

Would I go back? Absolutely. Would I bring friends? Without a doubt. It’s the kind of place that keeps you coming back for more, whether it’s for a fresh pint or just to soak in the vibe.
