Review of Logboat Brewing Co. Rocket Shark Belma & The Queen IPA

by

This is a funky brew from Logboat named, “Rocket Shark Belma & The Queen IPA”. First off, the name alone is a caught my attention, so I couldn’t wait to crack this open and see what it was all about.

First Impressions

The pour was absolutely gorgeous. It’s got this hazy, golden-orange glow. The fluffy white head stuck around for a bit too, leaving some solid lacing on the glass, which is always a good sign. Right away, the aroma hit me with waves of tropical fruit, citrus zest, and a slight herbal undertone. Belma hops really shine here, bringing a unique strawberry and melon vibe to the nose.

Tasting Notes

The first sip is where the real magic happens. The tropical fruit theme carries over big time, with pineapple and mango taking center stage, but there’s a twist of ripe strawberries in the mix…something you don’t often find in an IPA. That fruity sweetness is balanced by a solid citrusy bitterness, with hints of orange pith and grapefruit peel that keep it from feeling too sugary.

The malt backbone is light and clean, giving just enough of a biscuity sweetness to hold everything together without overpowering the hops. The finish is crisp and dry, with a pleasant lingering bitterness that invites you back for another sip.

Mouthfeel

Rocket Shark has a medium body with a smooth, almost creamy texture, which works beautifully with the juicy flavors. Carbonation is spot-on. It’s not too prickly, but enough to keep things lively.

What I Loved

This beer is super drinkable for an IPA with a unique hop profile. It’s not your typical “piney and resinous” IPA, and I appreciated how the Belma hops brought something fresh and fruity to the table. Plus, that dry finish is clutch for keeping it from feeling heavy.

What Could Be Better

If I had to nitpick, I’d say the bitterness might be a touch too mild for those who love a more aggressive, West Coast style IPA punch. Also, while the strawberry notes are cool and different, they could throw off someone looking for a more classic IPA vibe.

The Verdict

Overall, Rocket Shark Belma & The Queen IPA is a refreshing and creative take on the style. Logboat Brewing Co (in Columbia, MO) clearly knows how to have fun with their beers, and this one delivers a unique, tropical, fruity experience that’s worth trying.
