Review of Martin City Brewing Hazy Way IPA

by Leave a Comment

If you’re a fan of hazy IPAs, Martin City Brewing’s (Kansas City, Missouri) Hazy Way IPA is worth a spot on your radar. This beer brings a solid mix of juicy, tropical vibes and a smooth, approachable body that makes it an easy choice for both seasoned IPA drinkers and those just getting into the haze craze.

First Impressions

Right from the pour, the Hazy Way IPA hits the mark visually. It’s a cloudy, golden-orange beauty with a fluffy white head that sticks around just long enough to leave a bit of lacing on the glass. That classic hazy look sets you up for what’s to come.

Aroma

Martin City Brewing Hazy Way IPA

The aroma is where this beer really shines. Big notes of citrus (oranges and grapefruit) come rushing out of the glass, backed by hints of pineapple, mango, and a touch of pine. It’s the kind of scent that pulls you in and gets your mouth watering before the first sip.

Taste

The flavor profile is just as inviting. Upfront, you get a burst of tropical fruitiness…pineapple, mango, and some passion fruit, all balanced out by a nice citrusy zip. The bitterness is mild, making it super drinkable and smooth, but there’s still enough of a hop bite to remind you it’s an IPA. The finish leans slightly sweet with a subtle malt backbone that ties everything together.

Mouthfeel

Hazy Way IPA has that soft, pillowy mouthfeel you want in a hazy beer. It’s medium-bodied with just the right amount of carbonation to keep it lively without feeling heavy. It’s crushable but still feels like a well rounded brew.

Balanced Critique

While it’s mostly a crowd pleaser, there are a couple of small things to note. If you’re a fan of bitter IPAs, this one might feel a little too soft for your liking. It’s definitely more about the juicy flavors than the hop punch. Also, while the sweetness works for the style, a touch more dryness on the finish might add some complexity. But really, these are minor quibbles in what’s otherwise a solid beer.

Overall Rating

Appearance: 4.5/5
Aroma: 4.8/5
Flavor: 4.5/5
Mouthfeel: 4.6/5
Overall: 4.6/5

Final Thoughts

Hazy Way IPA delivers exactly what you’d expect from a hazy…big tropical flavors, a smooth body, and an easy drinking profile that makes it perfect for a sunny afternoon or a laid back night with friends. While it doesn’t push the envelope in terms of innovation, it’s a solid example of the style done right. Grab a can and see for yourself. You’ll probably want another one after the first sip!
