Stone Hazy IPA Review

by

If you’re already a fan of Stone Brewing, like I am, their Hazy IPA will likely hit the right spot. Let’s dive into this brew with an open mind and an open palate.

First Impressions
Cracking open the can, you’re immediately greeted with a blast of tropical aromas. Think pineapple, mango, and citrus—it’s basically a fruit salad in your nose. Pour it out, and the hazy golden-orange color is just gorgeous, with a nice, fluffy white head that sticks around for a bit. It’s exactly what you expect from a solid hazy IPA in appearance.

Tasting Notes
The first sip is where the magic really happens. Up front, you’re hit with juicy tropical fruit flavors, led by pineapple and a bit of tangerine zest. It’s smooth and slightly sweet, but there’s enough of a citrusy bite to remind you that you’re still drinking a Stone IPA. As you sip more, some subtle peach and stone fruit notes come into play, adding complexity. The finish has a soft bitterness—not overpowering, but just enough to balance out the sweetness.

Stone Hazy IPA

One thing that stands out is the mouthfeel—it’s soft, almost creamy, with a pleasant carbonation that gives it a refreshing quality. You don’t get the same aggressive bitterness that some of Stone’s other IPAs are known for, which makes this one a lot easier to enjoy if you’re not into that super bitter West Coast style.

What I Liked
This beer really nails the hazy style while still retaining some of that Stone Brewing character. It’s juicy without being a sugar bomb, and the balance between fruitiness and bitterness is well done. The 6.7% ABV feels just right—enough to give it some body without feeling too heavy. The tropical flavors are vibrant and really make you feel like you’re sipping something fresh and sunny.

What Could Be Better
If I had to nitpick, it might be just a little too safe. Compared to other hazy IPAs on the market, it doesn’t really push the boundaries. The hop complexity is there, but it doesn’t quite blow me away with the depth of flavor you might find in some of the more adventurous hazies. Also, after a few sips, the bitterness lingers a touch longer than I’d like, which can be a bit drying on the palate.

Overall Rating

  • Aroma: 9/10
  • Appearance: 8/10
  • Flavor: 8/10
  • Mouthfeel: 9/10
  • Drinkability: 8/10
  • Overall: 8.5/10

Final Thoughts
Stone Hazy IPA is a solid entry in the hazy IPA category. It’s got that signature Stone attitude but is toned down in bitterness, making it super drinkable and approachable. It may not be the most adventurous hazy out there, but it’s a dependable, flavorful brew that’s perfect for chilling with friends or enjoying on a sunny day. Definitely worth trying if you’re into the style—or even if you just want something easygoing but still packed with flavor!
